Changes to the rural supplement payment coming October 15

The Government of Canada has increased the CCR rural supplement from 10% to 20% of the base amount and eligibility is reverting back to using the 2016 Census data. This means those deemed ineligible under the 2021 Census data will again receive the rural supplement. The increased supplement and retroactive payments from April and July will be issued together in October’s payment. If you do not receive your payment by October 29, you may want to check on its status using My Account. The CRA cannot provide any other information about these payments before October 29.

Prince Edward Island rural supplement

All CCR recipients in Prince Edward Island are eligible for the rural supplement and are already receiving the 20% increase as part of their basic amount since April 2024.

The Canada Carbon Rebate (formerly known as the Climate action incentive payment (CAIP)) is a tax-free amount to help eligible individuals and families offset the cost of the federal pollution pricing. It consists of a basic amount and a supplement for residents of small and rural communities.
