How much the payment amounts were

The CCR amount you received depended on your family situation and the province where you resided.

Family income did not affect your payment amount

The CCR was not subject to a reduction based on income.

Factors that affected your payment amount

Rural supplement

Eligibility for the CCR was determined by using 2016 Census data provided by Statistics Canada. To be eligible for the rural supplement, you had to reside outside a census metropolitan area (CMA).

Find out if you qualified for the supplement for residents of small and rural communities.

Change in your situation

Your amount could have been changed if your situation changed.

These changes included a:

  • Move to a different province or territory
  • Change in your marital status
  • Child reaching the age of 19 (they could claim their own rebate)
  • New child in your care
  • Change to your child custody agreement
  • Death of a recipient
  • Confinement to a prison or similar institution for a period of at least 90 consecutive days

Existing debt

The CRA does not charge or give interest on any rebate overpayments or underpayments.
