Reporting a nil remittance when you do not know the date of your next payment
If you do not know the date of your next payment, press "2" at the prompt "Please choose one of the following three options to report your nil remittance."
By selecting this option you are reporting a nil remittance for a payment period. You are also informing the CRA that you do not know or cannot estimate when you will be making a payment to a non-resident next for which you will be withholding tax.
Example
You are reporting a nil remittance for a specified period. You also do not know when will be the next time you will make a payment to a non-resident for which you will be withholding tax. Your nil remittance entry will update the payment period as requested.
Near the end of your call, you will be asked to confirm that the information you have given is correct.
- If you press "1" for "yes," the system will give you a confirmation number. Write it down and keep it with your paper remittance voucher.
- If you press "0" for "no," your account will not be updated. Try again later or send the CRA a paper reply. Otherwise, a payment will be expected.
Once you receive your confirmation number, your non-resident account will be updated at once.
