Estimate your benefit amount
Your adjusted family net income
You do not need to calculate your adjusted family net income. The CRA calculates this number for you to determine your eligibility for certain benefits.
You can use the estimator tool if you want to estimate your adjusted family net income and your benefit amount.
Your adjusted family net income is determined using net income, RDSP, and UCCB amounts from your:
- 2021 tax return for the first benefit period (October 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023)
- 2022 tax return for the second benefit period (July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024)
If you have a spouse or common-law partner, their information will be included in the calculation.
Full custody
The dental benefit uses the same custody arrangement as the Canada Child Benefit (CCB) as of:
- December 1, 2022 for the first benefit period
- July 1, 2023 for the second benefit period
You must have either full or shared custody to receive the CCB. If you have full custody for the CCB, you would be the only one receiving the CCB. If you are not eligible to receive the CCB for your child, you cannot apply for the Canada Dental Benefit.
If your CCB custody arrangement has changed (opens in new window), make sure you update your information with the CRA.
What counts as full custody for the CCB
If the child lives with you more than 60% of the time, you are considered to have full custody for the purposes of the CCB.
For example, the child lives with you during the week and with another individual every second weekend.
