COVID-19 Update: National COVID-19 Business Continuity Plan – April 27, 2020
Good morning,
Our achievements over the last several weeks have been unprecedented and have demonstrated to Canadians that they can count on us. I know we have said it before, but we are deeply appreciative of every effort you have been making on a daily basis.
Since we announced changes to the National COVID-19 Business Continuity Plan for the Agency on April 14, the situation has continued to evolve and we would like to share the latest developments.
We strongly believe that open, two-way and ongoing communication is fundamental. We appreciate those who have reached out and shared their ideas and concerns. Staying in contact allows us to keep up with the latest developments, but it also brings us together, which is crucial, especially in a context of physical distancing.
To ensure support for Canadians at this difficult time, we will continue to operate critical services under the CRA National COVID-19 Business Continuity Plan (BCP) at least until May 29, 2020. Given the changing environment, we are phasing in new services to the critical services list. Effective today, new services have been added to the BCP including many in support of the delivery of programs like the Canada Emergency Response Benefit, the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy, and the upcoming Canada Emergency Student Benefit. Please speak with your manager if you have any questions.
All employees who are able, should now be working from home. In the case of non-critical services, please ensure that your work does not have a negative impact on taxpayers nor should it create additional tasks for colleagues who are performing critical services as defined in the BCP.
Priority for building re-entry to obtain essential equipment will be given to employees performing critical services under this revised BCP. However, guidance for building re-entry is being amended to also grant access to employees who are not currently listed in the BCP. You may be contacted by your manager in the near future to come into the office to pick up equipment at a scheduled time to help ensure physical distancing and health and safety.
Although progress has been made, we must continue to follow public health authorities’ direction and stay home to slow the spread of COVID-19. As the weeks go by, you are likely experiencing a range of emotions and some days are better than others. This is perfectly normal. The vast majority of us have seen our daily lives turned upside down and because the situation is constantly changing, we need to adapt quickly and frequently. If you are feeling frustrated, sad or concerned, we would like to remind you that the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is there to help you and your family members.
As you know, some Canadians are facing additional challenges during these difficult times. Now more than ever, there are many people in need. If you can help, make a contribution to the GCWCC COVID-19: Emergency Campaign. Any amount can make a big difference in someone’s life.
Please stay informed by visiting the COVID-19: Information for Canada Revenue Agency Employees page or through our social media networks Facebook, Twitter and our RSS feed.
You are part of an organization that, every day for the past few weeks, has been working hard to help Canadians, no matter who they are. Whether it is the Canada Emergency Response Benefit, which provides relief to many families who are currently in difficult circumstances, the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy, that will allow employees to be paid rather than laid off, or the latest initiative, the Canada Emergency Student Benefit, it is all making a difference. No matter what position you hold at the Agency, we're all part of a whole, each and every one of you has a crucial role to play. Thank you for your ongoing dedication and resilience. We hope you are as proud of yourselves as we are of you.
