Address changes for clients of child and family benefit and the goods and services tax/harmonized sales tax credit programs

Clients of the Canada Child Tax Benefit (CCTB), related provincial and territorial programs, and the goods and services tax/harmonized sales tax (GST/HST) credit must advise the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA) of any change in their address.

Eligibility for these programs is based in part on an individual's residency. To be eligible for the federal CCTB or GST/HST credit, an individual must be resident in Canada. In addition, eligibility for each provincial or territorial benefit program requires residency in that particular province or territory. For these reasons, the CCRA will stop issuing payments under these programs when it receives information that it no longer has a client's correct address. This policy affects clients who receive benefits by cheque as well as those who receive benefits by Direct Deposit, even if their bank account does not change.

All clients of the CCTB, provincial or territorial programs, or the GST/HST credit program have a responsibility to inform the CCRA of any change to their mailing address to prevent a disruption in their benefits.

Advising the CCRA of a change of address

Clients can change their address:

  • in person at their local tax services office;
  • by calling the CCRA at 1-800-387-1193; or
  • by writing to the CCRA.

Information about the CCTB is available from the CCRA at 1-800-387-1193.

Information about the GST/HST credit is available by calling 1-800-959-1953.
