Sustainable Development Management Framework
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is committed to sustainable development (SD). In fact, the core principle of SD - maximizing human well-being in the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs - resonates well with our organization's mission, vision, and values.
The CRA SD Program supports the Agency's business and satisfies the federal legislative requirements for SD. Our SD management framework consists of an SD Policy, an SD Strategy, and an SD National Action Plan. These components are supported by plans and programs that guide SD communications and learning, recognition, and performance management.
SD Stakeholder Engagement
We establish common grounds for sustainable solutions by seeking to understand the interests and dynamics of the various areas within our Agency. We rely on the input and work of members of our SD Network, as well as subject matter experts from each branch and region of the CRA. Dialogue and engagement at management and employee levels help us to build trust, and to incorporate SD into our programs and operations.
Partnerships
The SD Centre of Expertise and the SD Network liaise with other government departments and organizations through various national, regional, and local working groups. These partnerships help to reduce duplication of effort, share best practices, and ensure that our SD Program reflects the priorities of the Government of Canada.
Strategic Environment Assessment
A Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is a systematic and comprehensive process for assessing the positive and negative environmental effects of a proposed policy, plan, or program and its alternatives.
Given its administrative mandate, the CRA has not conducted SEAs to date. If required, the CRA will conduct SEAs, with the support of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency.
Our organization focuses its efforts on internal policies and programs to minimize the impacts of our large operations on the natural environment. Through the CRA SD Program, we promote the use of the SD Criteria - an analytical tool to help planners and analysts systematically incorporate social, economic, and environmental considerations when developing or updating programs, policies, plans, and projects. The SD Criteria Tool supports the SD Strategy, and facilitates integrated and balanced decision-making in support of SD.
For additional information on CRA activities that relate to the environmental, economic, and social pillars of SD, see Guide RC4087, Sustainable Development Strategy 2014-2017.
