Validating your XML file

To validate your file, you can either download the XML schema below or point your parser to our universal resource locator (URL).

Downloading the XML schema

We will occasionally make changes to the XML schema files. Whenever we make changes we will add a date to indicate the most recent change.

We have published a new schema that is now available on our Web site. You must begin using this schema immediately if you are filing your RSP and RIF listings using internet file transfer.

If you download the schema, use it to check that the XML file is well formatted and valid before you send it to the Canada Revenue Agency. The schema is used with your parser to validate your XML file. Your parser should be a validating parser that checks for the proper file format. You should verify that the validating feature in your parser is turned on before checking your file. The schema has an .xsd extension.

Pointing to the URL

You can also simply point your parser directly to the uniform resource locator (URL) of our schema to always have the most recent version.
