Tips on using Non-Resident TeleReply

Before you call

  • Fill out your Non-Resident Tax Information Request or your remittance voucher and have this information with you when you call.
  • Do not use a cordless or cellular telephone to make sure your privacy is protected and for best results. Non-Resident TeleReply does not work with rotary phones.
  • You can update your nil remittance information for more than one non-resident account during the same phone call.

The service is available from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Using Non-Resident TeleReply

  • The Non-Resident TeleReply system will ask you to enter your account number starting with the third letter of your non-resident account number followed by the remaining six numbers. Do not enter the first two letters, “NR,” of your account number.
  • Your remitting period is the period in which you would normally have paid or credited an amount to a non-resident and would have been required to withhold non-resident tax on the gross payment. Do not enter your remittance due date.
  • Press the " * " (star button) to repeat any message.
  • Whenever you enter a date, enter 4 digits for the year, 2 digits for the month and 2 digits for the day.
  • If you hang up before receiving your confirmation number, your information will not be processed. If at any time during the call the system tells you that you cannot use the service, you will have to mail in your filled out Non-Resident Tax Information Request or remittance voucher to the International and Ottawa Tax Services Office.

After you call

  • Keep your paper voucher along with any related documents and confirmation number for your records.
  • You have to enter all your information every time you call.
