Upcoming SR&ED food processing workshops

Canada is home to major players in the global food processing industry who play a critical role in bringing to market relevant products that align with emerging consumer trends in a timely manner. The process of creating new or modified products and moving them through research and development (R&D), testing and scale-up can be challenging. The Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax incentive program supports R&D investments in Canada towards risks associated with attempting to face these challenges through scientific and/or technological advancement.

About our technical workshops

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is launching a series of national workshops, in collaboration with key players from various regions, aimed at directly supporting businesses conducting research and development (R&D) in the food processing sector. The workshop is intended to help businesses receive their full entitlements under the SR&ED Program in a predictable and timely manner while reducing burden and compliance cost.

What to expect

The workshop presentation is specially designed as an engagement session for Canadian businesses conducting R&D in the food technology/processing sector. The workshops will consist of a half-day session targeting food processors, employees and contractors involved in R&D work, as well as researchers from universities and private or public research centres. This is an opportunity for businesses and researchers to engage directly with the CRA.

During the workshop, you will gain valuable insights in order to:

  • relate your R&D projects and innovation to SR&ED
  • understand how the CRA determines eligibility through a case study of a project in the food processing sector
  • determine what expenditures can be claimed
  • get useful tips and best practices to efficiently track eligible work and related expenditures, retain relevant information, and prepare SR&ED claims.
