NOA via tax software
Individuals and authorized representatives can view the notice of assessment (NOA) or notice of reassessment (NOR) in EFILE and NETFILE certified tax preparation software, right after the return has been received and processed by the CRA.
How can I view the NOA in tax software?
Authorized Representatives
To view the NOA or NOR, you must:
- be a certified electronic filer;
- be registered for a CRA account and have access to Represent a Client;
- have a RepID, GroupID or business number; and
- use an EFILE-certified software.
Your client must:
- authorize you for online access (RepID, GroupID, or business number) to their CRA tax information, using one of the following methods:
- directly in their My Account.
- through your EFILE-certified software. The signature page generated by the software is to be signed by the client and kept by you for six years.
- by confirming in their My Account the authorization request you submitted in Represent a Client.
- complete Part E of Form T183, Information Return for Electronic Filing of an Individual’s Income Tax and Benefit Return, and select the “NOA via Tax Software” option.
Note
When your client selects the option to have their NOA or NOR made available electronically to you by completing Part E of Form T183, the CRA will not send you or your client a paper copy of the NOA or NOR.
Individuals
To view the NOA or NOR, you must:
- be registered for a CRA account; and
- use a NETFILE-certified software.
Once you file your return and receive your confirmation message, you will be prompted to enter your CRA user ID and password to view your NOA. It will then be delivered into your software where you can save or print it.
Preparing a tax return for a family member or a friend
If you prepare a tax return for a family member or a friend, you need to:
- Be authorized to receive the NOA on their behalf. You can get this authorization by obtaining a RepID through the Represent a Client portal. The RepID identifies you with the CRA.
- Give your RepID to your family member or friend so they can authorize you as their representative through their My Account. For more information on authorizing a representative, go to Authorize or cancel a representative.
- Have them register for My Account.
Once you are authorized, you can receive their NOA for them within NETFILE-certified software.
The NOA does not show your payment
If you have to make a payment around the same time that you electronically file your tax return, your payment may not show up on your notice at that time. To confirm any payments made to the CRA, you can check your online banking portal, log into My Account or call the Individual Tax Account Balance Automated Service to hear your account balance.
