Update: National Business Resumption Plan – September 17, 2020

When we announced the Agency’s National Business Resumption Plan (NBRP) on June 23, we noted that services would resume gradually in a thoughtful and phased approach, taking into account our priorities: the health and safety of our employees and the needs of Canadians.

The current way you are working, whether it is from home or at the office will continue for the foreseeable future. In addition, after careful consideration, we are pleased to announce that we are moving into the next phase of the NBRP which means that many of the Agency’s day-to-day operations, that were put on hold during the initial stages of COVID-19, are coming back on line. As we resume the majority of these activities it is of paramount importance that we continue to focus on our People First approach, placing our employees and taxpayers at the centre of every decision and action we make. These activities play a crucial role in helping Canadians understand and meet their tax obligations, as well as contributing to Canada’s economic recovery.

At the same time, we are aware that many Canadians continue to face financial difficulties as a result of the global pandemic, and we need to be conscious and appropriately adjust how we carry out our business. As an example, the CRA is adopting a compassionate approach for the resumption of outgoing calls. We are asking you to adopt an empathetic mindset when working with each taxpayer to understand the hardships they may be facing and find arrangements that help them meet their tax obligations.

We are continually grateful for your hard work. You are adapting to new ways of working, new programs, and emergency benefits, as well as addressing the outstanding tax work resulting from the critical services period. We are committed to supporting you in ensuring that you can work safely and efficiently, with the flexibility you need, whether you are in a work space in your home or at a CRA worksite.

As we progress into the fall, some of you may be experiencing additional adjustments to new school schedules or new routines. We know this is challenging. If you are struggling or are in need of support, the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is available to you and your family.

We are a large and diverse Agency, with over forty thousand employees across the country. Each of us has a unique situation both personally and professionally and we want you to know your dedication has not gone unnoticed. We are deeply grateful and proud of all our employees, wherever you are working.

Thank you again for remaining flexible, innovative and committed.
