Message from the Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, Minister of National Revenue: COVID-19

Good morning everyone,

I hope you're holding up at home, between work, home life and family. It's a new reality for many, and some days can be harder than others. Remember, the Employee Assistance Program is there for you. Go and get the resources you need.

Everyone is working harder than ever and the Agency has truly become a lifeline for Canadians across the country. Thank you for your efforts.

The Agency has been administering the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit since early April, and on April 27, we began accepting applications for the new Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS). Retroactive to March 15, 2020, CEWS will help prevent further job losses and encourage employers to rehire employees they have laid off due to COVID-19. To date, we have received more than 85,000 applications for CEWS.

It is thanks to you, the CRA’s employees, that Canadians and their businesses have the resources they need to weather this storm. And as I always say, it's when you navigate through a storm that you recognize the good sailors.

As you know, we are all facing different challenges during this crisis. Now, more than ever, many people are in need. If you are in a position to do so, consider making a donation to the GCWCC COVID-19: Emergency Campaign. Every amount counts.

Once again, you have my deepest gratitude, and I hope you realize how essential, and greatly appreciated, your work is.

Take care of yourself and your loved ones.

The Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, P.C., M.P.
Minister of National Revenue
