Donating to organizations that are not qualified donees in Canada and are located abroad
When donating to organizations that are not qualified donees, you cannot receive an official donation receipt for a charitable tax credit or deduction on your Canadian tax return.
In some instances, if you have U.S. source income, you can claim a portion of the eligible amount of a gift to a U.S. charity if the charity meets certain conditions.
For more information, go to Gifts and Income Tax.
Donation matching by the federal government
The federal government may support relief efforts by matching donations to certain registered charities or other qualified donees. These donation matching initiatives are announced by:
- Public Safety Canada (for domestic crises)
- Global Affairs Canada (international crises)
