Debt collection at the CRA

Call us if you can't pay in full or on time –Debt collection at the CRA

We understand that people and businesses sometimes find themselves in circumstances where they are unable to pay their taxes or other debts in full and on time.

By giving us a call, we can help you figure out what to do if you can't pay your debt.

You may be able to:

  • Delay a payment to a later date
  • Start or change a payment arrangement
  • Reduce interest and penalties
  • Find other ways to reduce or resolve your debt

Consider setting up a series of automatic payments

For certain debts or payments, you can set up a set of pre-authorized debit payments online or with an automated phone service.

You can also call us to set up a payment arrangement.

Before you call

When you call, you will need to have your:

  • Social Insurance Number or business number
  • Full name and date of birth or business name
  • Complete personal or business address
  • Assessed return, notice of assessment or reassessment, other notices or tax documents, or be signed in to My Account or My Business Account

Find a phone number

If you received a letter from a collections officer, call them at the number provided as soon as possible.
