Description
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is launching an open Call for Applications for the Advisory Committee on the Charitable Sector (ACCS). The mandate of the ACCS is to engage in meaningful dialogue with the charitable sector, advance emerging issues related to charities, and to ensure the regulatory environment supports the important work that charities do.
We invite applicants with experience grounded in the issues facing the charitable sector, including representatives of registered charities, national umbrella organizations, and professional associations; and charity researchers/academics, and legal experts to apply.
To date, the ACCS has published three reports with recommendations to the Minister of National Revenue.
As the terms of six currently-serving members come to an end, the Minister of National Revenue will be looking to appoint new charitable sector members. New members will serve a two year term.
About the Advisory Committee on the Charitable Sector
The ACCS is co-chaired by the charitable sector and the CRA. It provides recommendations to the Minister of National Revenue on important and emerging issues facing registered charities and other qualified donees on an ongoing basis.
The ACCS is composed of up to 17 members from the charitable sector, as well as 3 members from the Government of Canada. See the ACCS Terms of Reference for more information.
Who can apply
Individuals applying through this process must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons as per the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
You must be available and willing to commit to participate as an ACCS member for the duration of the two-year term of an appointment. ACCS members are not compensated.
How we assess your application
Merit criteria
Applicants will be assessed based on the following specific selection criteria:
- Knowledge and expertise related to emerging issues facing the charitable sector and the regulatory environment in which it operates.
- Experience in participating in a consultative forum
Diversity
To assist us in achieving diversity in the ACCS member representation, questions about your field of expertise, sector of affiliation, province or territory, area of residence (e.g. rural, Northern, urban), and demographic profile will also be asked. We welcome and encourage applications from a broad cross-section of experts, practitioners, leaders from the not-for-profit and private sectors, as well as members of various groups, including women, LGBTQ2 communities, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities and members of visible minorities. Since the Government will consider diversity in assessing candidates, preference may be given to candidates from one or more of the above-mentioned groups that could bring a specific perspective to the table.
