Overview
The Yukon Government carbon price rebate is a payment made to individuals and their families to help offset the cost of the federal carbon pollution pricing levy.
The Canada Revenue Agency will be issuing the rebate payments on behalf of the Government of Yukon.
Are you eligible?
You are eligible if you were a Yukon resident on December 31, 2018.
To receive the Yukon Government carbon price rebate initial payments, you must file a 2018 income tax and benefit return as a Yukon resident, even if you have no income or your income is tax exempt.
Only one payment will be issued per family.
Do you need to apply?
No. You do not need to apply to receive the payments. The Canada Revenue Agency will determine your eligibility and issue the rebate to all eligible individuals.
When are payments made?
Two initial payments will be made. One in October 2019 and one in April 2020.
If you are eligible but have not received your first Yukon Government carbon price rebate payment by November 15, 2019, call 1-800-387-1193.
If you live in the Territories, and your area code is 867, you can also call the dedicated individual and benefit enquiries telephone service for territorial residents at 1-866-426-1527.
Starting in July 2020, regular quarterly Yukon Government carbon price rebate payments will be issued in July, October, January and April.
How much will you get?
The Yukon Government carbon price rebate is the same amount for each Yukon resident, regardless of age, income, or marital status.
For the two initial payments, an amount of $43.00 will be paid for each resident, including children. For example, a family of four will get two payments of $172.00.
If parents share custody of a child, each parent will receive an amount of $21.50 for the child.
How will you get your payment?
Rebate payments will be issued by cheque or direct deposit. If you receive your federal GST/HST credit payment by direct deposit, you will also receive your Yukon Government carbon price rebate payment by direct deposit.
