There are many benefits, credits, and deductions to help your family with expenses throughout the year and reduce the amount you owe at tax time.
- Taxes 101: Students earn “extra credit” this term!
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has tax credits, deductions, and benefits to help students. Make sure you claim those you are eligible for when you file your income tax and benefit return. Even if you have little or no income, you should still file your income tax return to claim eligible credits and benefits.
- What to do after you’ve filed your return
After you file your 2015 income tax and benefit return, there are still a few things you should do.
- Did you have medical expenses? You may be able to claim them on your income tax and benefit return
If you paid for hospital services, paid to live in a nursing home, or bought medical supplies such as pacemakers, vaccines, or walking aids, you may be able to claim a non-refundable tax credit based on these and other eligible expenses when filing your income tax and benefit return.
