How do individuals and businesses authorize me?

Individuals can go to My Account and enter your RepID to authorize you as an individual, a GroupID to authorize a group of representatives, or enter the Business Number (BN) to authorize all employees of a business. They can also authorize you as a representative by completing Form T1013, Authorizing or Cancelling a Representative, and sending it to their tax centre.

Businesses can go to My Business Account and enter your RepID to authorize you as an individual, a GroupID to authorize a group of representatives, or enter the Business Number (BN) to authorize all employees of a business. They can also authorize you as a representative by completing Form RC59, Business consent form, and sending it to their tax centre.

Form T1013, Authorizing or Cancelling a Representative

If your clients use Form T1013, Authorizing or Cancelling a Representative, to authorize you, a group, or your business as their representative, these procedures must be followed to give you online access to their tax information:

  • Register your Business Number (BN) with the Represent a Client service before your client submits Form T1013.
  • Your client has to enter either your RepID or GroupID or BN on Form T1013.
  • The business name you register with the Represent a Client service must match the business name on Form T1013 to prevent delays in processing.
  • The CRA has to receive your client's Form T1013 no later than six months after it is signed.

Form RC59, Business Consent Form

If your client uses Form RC59, Business Consent Form, to authorize you, a group, or your business as their representative, these procedures must be followed to give you online access to their tax information:

  • Your client has to enter either your RepID or GroupID or BN on Form RC59.
  • The business name you register with the Represent a Client service must match the business name on Form RC59 to prevent delays in processing.

Note: Our online services do not have a year-specific option, so you will have access to all tax years. For more information view our Frequently asked questions.
