Quebec Child Assistance

Quebec child assistance is a form of financial assistance paid to all Quebec families with one or more dependent children under the age of 18.

It is calculated on the basis of family income for the preceding year, the number of children under 18 years of age, and the family type (single-parent or two-parent). If any children are in shared custody, that is also taken into account.

As of January 1, 2007, you have to send your application for child assistance and any information about a change in your family situation directly to the Régie des rentes du Québec. However, for a new birth in Quebec, you do not have to submit an application, because the Quebec Registrar of Civil Status will automatically inform the Régie.

You can apply on-line through the Régie’s Web site, or call the Régie to get the Form LPF-800, Application for a Child Assistance Payment.
