About the CCRA

The CCRA's mission is to promote compliance with Canada's tax, trade, and border laws through communications, quality service, and responsible enforcement, thereby contributing to the economic and social well-being of Canadians.

Our responsibilities include revenue collection; the administration of tax laws for the Government of Canada and for most provinces and territories; customs services and the administration of international trade legislation; and the delivery of various social and economic benefit programs. In fulfilling these responsibilities, we serve hundreds of thousands of Canadians and visitors to our country every day.

"Our overall approach to compliance is based on self-assessment and voluntary compliance, backed by responsible enforcement."

Our overall approach to compliance is based on self-assessment and voluntary compliance. To help our clients meet their obligations, and to inform them of their rights and entitlements, we provide information and assistance in applying tax and customs rules. To ensure the fairness of the system, we maintain an enforcement capacity to take appropriate corrective action when people do not abide by the laws and regulations that we administer on behalf of all Canadians.

We plan, report, and account for the work that we do along five business lines that were established to provide a client-focused approach to the design and delivery of our programs and services.

Customs services protects Canadian society and promotes the competitiveness of Canada through the facilitation of international trade and tourism, balanced with responsible border management.

Tax services assists Canadians in receiving their entitlements and meeting their obligations under the taxation system.

Benefit programs and other services provides Canadians with income-based benefits and other services that contribute to their economic and social well-being.

Appeals provides clients with a fair redress and dispute resolution process.

Corporate management and direction maximizes the performance of the CCRA through modern and progressive management, human resource, information technology, financial, and administrative policies and practices.
