Multiple records

This situation concerns the number of records submitted for contributions made by a particular contributor to a particular plan. An individual may make several contributions to their RRSP during a contribution year. However, for purposes of the RRSP contribution information return, you are only required to include one record per contributor and per plan. You are only required to send us more than one record for an individual if that individual contributed to more than one RRSP.

Example

An individual made the following RRSP contributions to the same RRSP during the 2016 contribution year (March 1, 2016 to March 1, 2017):

Contributions made in the last 10 months of 2016
Month Type Amount
March Regular $250
April Regular $250
May Regular $250
June Regular $250
July Regular $250
August Regular $250
September Regular $250
October Regular $250
November Regular $250
November Transfer – Retiring allowance $5,250
December Regular $250

The total contributions made between March 1, 2016 and December 31, 2016 is $7,750.

Contributions made in the first 60 days of 2017
Month Type Amount
January Regular $250
February Regular $250
March 3 Other - HBP repayment $1,333

The total contributions made between January 1, 2017 and March 1, 2017 is $1,833

Only one RRSP contribution record is required for this individual for the 2016 contribution year. The record would show the following contribution information:

Contribution record
Amount prior year
(contributions made in the last 10 months of 2016)
Amount current year
(contributions made in the first 60 days of 2017)
$7,750 $1,833
