The Canada Revenue Agency can make filing your taxes easier
Did you know...?
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is there to help during tax filing season.
Important facts
- The CRA's Web site is loaded with information to help you file and pay on time. Go to www.cra.gc.ca/getready for information about filing and paying your 2010 taxes.
- You can access your tax information using the My Account service at www.cra.gc.ca/MyAccount. This year, you will need a CRA user ID and password to use the service. If you don't already have one, go to www.cra.gc.ca/MyAccount and click on the No button to create one.
- If you can't find the right form or Web page, you can call the CRA enquiries line at 1-800-959-8281. During tax filing season (mid-February to April 30), agents are available from 8:15 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays, and from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays, with the exception of the Easter weekend.
- If you need to make a change to a return that you already sent us, you don't need to file a second return for that year. Wait until you receive your Notice of Assessment, then request the changes online, through My Account, or fill out a T1 Adjustment form and send it by mail.
- If you are unable to complete your income tax and benefit return yourself, the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) may be for you. Volunteer tax-preparation clinics are generally offered between February and April of each year in various locations across Canada. Some tax clinics operate all year long. To find out if you qualify for free help, or to find a clinic near you, go to www.cra.gc.ca/volunteer, or call 1-800-959-8281.
Statistics
- From January 1 to April 30, 2010, the CRA Web site recorded about 120 million individual page views.
- From January 1 to April 30, 2010, the CRA's Individual Income Tax Enquiries agents answered almost 4 million calls to the 1-800 numbers.
- Last year, the 17, 034 volunteers in the CVITP helped file over 500,185 tax returns.
