Overview of the Canada Revenue Agency's Integrated Revenue Collection Project
November 2006
Purpose of the Initiative
Currently, many existing processes and computer systems used to manage revenue collections are dated, and in other cases vendor support is no longer available. As a result, it is difficult for the Agency to integrate programs, measure their results and report on them.
The Integrated Revenue Collections (IRC) project will modernize processes and provide the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) with improved computer systems to support and integrate tax compliance and enforcement programs.
What will IRC achieve?
The modernized processes and integrated computer systems will improve the Agency's tax collection capabilities by:
- Making use of pertinent information to better identify, prioritize and allocate work, based on risk
- Providing a better understanding of the makeup of the tax debt
- Improving the performance reporting capabilities of the Agency
Current status of IRC
IRC will be implemented in two phases. The first phase is already well underway with the design and development of technical tools that will enable CRA to better identify and prioritize our work and improve performance reporting. Phase one will be complete by the end of 2009.
Next Steps
IRC will continue to work on realizing phase one objectives and begin planning for phase two.
