Les Manufacturiers Multiprint Ltd. fined $1 million for tax evasion
Montréal, Quebec, June 21, 2017... The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) announced that Les Manufacturiers Multiprint Ltd., a Montréal-based company specialized in the manufacturing and sale of clothing, was fined $1,000,000 after pleading guilty today to tax evasion charges before the Court of Quebec in Montréal.
A CRA investigation revealed that, for the 2010 to 2012 tax years, the company, now operating under the name Productions Acypol Inc., wilfully contravened the Income Tax Act by illegally treating personal expenses of $368,018 as corporate expenses and failed to declare US$1,692,620 in income on management services in order to reduce their profits and pay less tax.
All case-specific information above was obtained from the court records.
The CRA takes tax evasion very seriously. When an individual or business does not fully comply with tax legislation, an unfair burden is placed on law-abiding taxpayers and businesses and the integrity of Canada's tax base is jeopardized.
If you have ever made a tax mistake or omission, the CRA is offering you a second chance to make things right through its Voluntary Disclosures Program (VDP). If you make a valid disclosure before you become aware that the CRA is taking action against you, you may only have to pay the taxes owing plus interest. The CRA is currently reviewing its VDP and is considering restrictions to limit access. Consultations are ongoing and changes will be announced in the fall of 2017. More information on the VDP can be found on the CRA's website at www.cra.gc.ca/voluntarydisclosures.
Additional information on convictions can be found on the Media page of the CRA Web site at www.cra.gc.ca/convictions.
