Message from the Chief Financial Officer and Assistant Commissioner
The Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA) has progressed steadily since December 1997 when we started integrating the principles of sustainable development (SD) into our programs and practices. We received full support of our SD strategy for 2001-2004 from the leadership of the CCRA, and I am proud to highlight the progress made in establishing the management framework for minimizing the negative environmental impacts of our operations.
I recognize that the achievements of the CCRA in support of SD would not be possible without the hard work and commitment of dedicated employees throughout the CCRA. I applaud your efforts and encourage you to continue to work to take SD to even higher levels of significance within the CCRA. I encourage managers to facilitate increased SD awareness among employees by promoting the use of the SD Web site on InfoZone.
The SD goals are in agreement with the areas of strategic focus of CCRA's Future Directions Initiative. The common objectives are expanded electronic services and strengthened partnerships and cooperation. As a result of Canada's ratification of the Kyoto Protocol in November 2002, there is added responsibility for us to continue to improve and preserve the health of the natural environment. These two factors will continue to position SD as a catalyst for improving the way we do business at the CCRA.
I look forward to your continued support of the SD program.
