Report on Annual Expenditures for Travel, Hospitality and Conferences

As required by the Treasury Board Directive on Travel, Hospitality, Conference and Event Expenditures, this report provides information on the total annual expenditures for each of travel, hospitality and conferences for the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2016. It also provides the variance explanations from the previous fiscal year in each of these areas.

This information is updated annually and does not contain information withheld under the Access to Information Act or the Privacy Act.

Expenditures on travel, hospitality and conferences incurred by the CRA are for the most part directly related to supporting the CRA's mandate and the government's priorities.

The mandate of the CRA is to administer and enforce tax legislation as well as other related legislation. It collects tax revenues, administers tax legislation and delivers social benefit programs on behalf of the federal government and other organizations such as provincial governments. In delivering its mandate, the CRA operates under eight programs. Further information on the CRA's mandate and program activities can be found in Note 1 to the CRA audited financial statements – Agency Activities included in the CRA Annual Report to Parliament.

Significant variances compared to the previous fiscal year:

TRAVEL: Compared to fiscal year 2014-2015, there was a slight increase in CRA travel expenditures by public servants, which is primarily the result of an increase in travel expenses related to the CRA’s core mandate.

HOSPITALITY AND CONFERENCES: Compared to fiscal year 2014-2015, CRA hospitality and conference expenditures continued to decrease as a result of its continuous effort to promote a cost-conscious culture within the organization at all levels.
