Federal Nomination
There are no vacancies at this time. However, when there is a vacancy for a federally-nominated member of the Board of Management, the notice of vacancy is published on the CRA website.
Provincial and/or Territorial Nomination
There are no vacancies at this time. When there is a vacancy, individuals interested in becoming a member of the Board of Management are invited to contact the office of the minister responsible for revenue administration (or equivalent) of their provincial and/or territorial Government. Role of the Board
The CRA Board of Management oversees the effective management of the CRA's corporate resources, services, property, personnel, and contracts.
The 15-member Board brings a strategic perspective to the CRA's operations, supporting sound management practices and effective service delivery.
Directors are expected to prepare for and actively participate in the Board's quarterly meetings and in the conference calls made between meetings to help maintain continuity.
Desired qualifications
As a Director, you see the big picture with its myriad related issues. You can ask tough, relevant questions in a way that encourages open discussion and that lets you consider different perspectives while providing thoughtful counsel of your own.
You have demonstrated integrity and the highest ethical standards in all your professional activities. You must have a degree from a recognized university in a relevant field of study or a combination of equivalent education, job-related training and experience.
You have board experience in the private, public, or not-for-profit sectors and have significant senior-level expertise in the area of information technology, human resources, risk governance, change management or the management of medium to large corporations. Previous experience serving as a board member of a public or private entity is preferred.
You must have some knowledge of the Agency's mandate and activities, as well as the legislative framework within which it operates. Knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of the Board of Management, as well as the federal government's corporate governance principles and best practices, is preferred.
You must have the ability to participate in discussions and think strategically, as well as possess superior communications skills, both written and oral. You will bring superior interpersonal and leadership skills to the Board of Management.
Proficiency in both official languages is an asset.
Pursuant to the CRA's enabling legislation, the director must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident. Furthermore, the incumbent cannot be a member of the Senate or House of Commons or a member of a provincial or territorial legislature, or be employed on a full-time basis in the public service of Canada or of a province or territory.
The CRA Board is committed to the principles of employment equity. Designated group members (Aboriginal peoples, members of a visible minority, persons with a disability, and women) are encouraged to apply and self-identify.
Potential candidates will be subject to the Government of Canada's Conflict of Interest Act and also to the CRA's Conflict of Interest and Ethical and Political Activity Guidelines for members of the Board of Management.
