1. Why is the CRA responding to enquiries in writing through the My Business Account service?
The CRA is committed to offering world-class electronic services as a means to facilitate voluntary compliance. There are significant benefits to electronic interaction, including convenience, security, timeliness and sustainable development.
Business taxpayers who write to the CRA with questions have asked for responses to be provided electronically. The CRA will develop a service and gather feedback as a first step towards its introduction in 2012.
The CRA offers a range of channels for providing information: the CRA Web site; toll-free telephone lines; responses in writing to written communications; and advance income tax rulings. Responses in writing that are posted to the secure My Business Account online service would be more specific than general enquiries but less technical than income tax rulings.
