Internet security and the CRA
The CRA is committed to providing a secure online environment for Canadians to find information, manage their tax accounts and make payments.
CRA’s security commitment
Our standard for encryption is the Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol. TLS allows general communication authentication and encryption over TCP/IP networks that transmit data by Hypertext Transfer Protocol HTTP Secure (HTTPS) used by Web servers to transfer and display Web content securely. The data transferred is encrypted so that it cannot be read by anyone except between you and the CRA. This ensures that computer hackers and other Internet users cannot view or alter the data being transmitted
Your security commitment
To maximize your security commitment, it is suggested that your computer have current antivirus software, a personal firewall, and that your browser and operating systems be kept up-to-date with all available upgrades.
For many of the electronic services offered by the CRA, you have to enable your browser's cookies if you have not already done so. The cookies help us to establish a secure session between you and us. Using cookies for this purpose does not put your computer or personal information at risk.
