Before you start

Before you start, we recommend that you complete the following steps:

  • generate and save your return using CRA-approved software;
  • verify that the Business Number, reporting period and return information generated by your software is correct;
  • verify that you are eligible to use GST/HST Internet File Transfer;
  • ensure that cookies and JavaScript are enabled in your browser; and,
  • if you have an amount owing, find out how to make a payment to the Canada Revenue Agency.

How do you file your return?

Once you have completed these steps, access the service through the Ready to file page and attach your (.tax) file. Once you have attached the file, you confirm that you want to file the information as your return. You will immediately get a confirmation number. After you exit, it is recommended you shut down and restart your browser. This will help ensure that any information you entered cannot be viewed by others.

Access code

To use GST/HST Internet File Transfer, you will need the four-digit access code printed on the electronic filing information package (Form GST34-3) or the personalized return (Form GST34-2) that you received in the mail.

Your access code will be the same for all future returns. You can change your access code to a number of your choice by using GST/HST Access Code Online.

Joint filers

If you are the coordinator of a closely related group of corporations (i.e. you have filed election GST303) and you file returns electronically, you must still send your letter of direction to your tax centre.
