Claiming SR&ED tax incentives? There is free information and help

Date: June 23, 2015

Did you know?

Whether you are a first-time scientific research and experimental development (SR&ED) claimant or have previously filed a claim, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is here to help you. Filing a complete and accurate claim is key to getting the tax benefits to which you are entitled.

Things you can do

Visit the SR&ED website. The SR&ED homepage gives you easy access to information that SR&ED claimants seek the most.

  • Claiming SR&ED tax incentives is a one-stop to an overview of SR&ED tax incentive benefits: who can claim them, how to make a claim, how to prepare for a review and much more.
  • A series of four videos featured on the homepage provide basic information about the SR&ED Program: who can claim SR&ED tax incentives, what work qualifies for the tax incentives, how do you calculate your SR&ED expenditures and investment tax credit, and how do you apply for the credit.
  • The SR&ED self-assessment and learning tool (SALT) is an online tool that can help you to understand the eligibility requirements of the SR&ED Program, find out if your project has eligible work, how to estimate the allowable expenditures, and estimate the amount of the investment tax credits that you may be entitled to receive.
  • The CRA also offers free general information webinars and topic specific seminars for which sign up is accessible from the SR&ED home page. These webinars and seminars provide detailed information, both technical and financial, on the eligibility requirements required to obtain SR&ED tax incentives, and a period for questions and answers.
