Calgary man found guilty of fraud and tax evasion for his scheme to steal money from investors
Calgary, Alberta, 18 April, 2017…The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) announced today that James Harvey Cameron, of Calgary, Alberta, was convicted on March 28, 2017 for tax evasion and fraud under the Criminal Code.
From 2002 to 2006, Mr. Cameron was the master-mind behind a fraudulent RRSP scheme which deprived investors of their funds. Mr. Cameron diverted $2.5 million of the investors’ funds for his own use and failed to report this as taxable income. He evaded federal taxes totalling $673,871.
The preceding information was obtained from the court records.
The CRA would like to remind the victims of the above noted fraud that under the Criminal Code, they have the right to appear at the sentencing hearing to seek restitution, and /or make a victim impact statement. The date of Mr. Cameron’s sentencing hearing has not yet been finalized, but is expected to be sometime between April 24 and May 12, 2017.
