Message for cell phone/VoIP users
If you contact us using a cell phone or a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) such as Skype and your service provider is located in a different time zone than the one you are calling from, you may hear a message saying that our offices are closed. Privacy Notice regarding call recording
The Canada Revenue Agency’s Business, Individual, Benefits enquiries, and Debt Management call centers record calls. These call recordings are used to evaluate the quality and accuracy of agents’ responses, as well as to provide insight into potential areas in which training would be beneficial.
Call recordings are also used to identify call trends and expose potential gaps in overall agent training. Through the review of thousands of recorded calls, it may become apparent that call patterns and reasons to call have changed over time, which requires a change in the way agents are trained, or the topics on which the training focuses.
During your conversation with an agent, you may be asked to provide personal information in order to validate your identity. The questions asked by the agents are in place to ensure the safety and security of your account. Without this verification step, agents are unable to access your account, make any changes on the account, or provide you with any account-based information.
Personal information is collected pursuant to the Income Tax Act and Excise Tax Act. Personal information is described in program-specific Personal Information Banks which can be found on the Canada Revenue Agency’s Info Source page at canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/corporate/about-canada-revenue-agency-cra/access-information-privacy-canada-revenue-agency/info-source-appendix.
Under the Privacy Act individuals have a right of protection, access to, and correction or notation of their personal information. Individuals also have a right to file a complaint with the Privacy Commissioner of Canada regarding our handling of their information.
If you do not wish for your call to be recorded, please inform the agent at the beginning of the call.
