About the assessment
The standardized WCE-PRO is a written exercise that assesses your ability to express your ideas in writing by using appropriate, error-free language to effectively transmit information.
You will be presented with a fictitious scenario in which you must reply to a letter by assuming the role of a professional within an organization. The letter must be written using a formal approach that respects the rules of spelling, grammar, syntax, punctuation, and the vocabulary of the English or French language.
The letter must also contain at least 320 words.
Three main criteria are evaluated:
- writing strategy
- structure and style
- grammar and mechanics of the text
This exercise does not assess the specific knowledge for this field of employment.

Regarding the portability of result, you can transfer your test results to other staffing processes if the same test is used.
The language of the test must correspond to a candidate’s first official language or the language of the position being staffed (English or French), and should not be used for second official language evaluation.
You can improve your writing ability in several ways, such as:
- reading more often
- practising continually
- reviewing guides on basic writing, grammar and spelling principles
- asking another person to review and comment your texts
