AIDE FISCALE FÉDÉRALE AUX VICTIMES DES INONDATIONS AU MANITOBA
OTTAWA, le 17 juin 1997... Le ministre du Revenu national, Herb Dhaliwal, a annoncé aujourd’hui que le gouvernement fournirait de l’aide fiscale aux victimes des inondations résidant dans le Bassin de la rivière Rouge au Manitoba. Le Ministre recommandera l’émission d’un décret de remise visant à éliminer toutes les conséquences fiscales des paiements de secours raisonnables que les employeurs versent à leurs employés.
"Je suis heureux que cette aide fiscale s’ajoute à l’ensemble des mesures que le gouvernement fédéral a mis en oeuvre pour venir en aide aux Manitobains", a déclaré le ministre des Affaires étrangères, Lloyd Axworthy, qui est le ministre fédéral responsable de la coordination des efforts d’aide au Manitoba.
"Revenu Canada est sensible aux pertes qu’ont subies les victimes des inondations au Manitoba", a déclaré le ministre Dhaliwal. "Je vais recommander à mes collègues du Cabinet que l’on accorde une aide fiscale à ces personnes."
Les paiements d’aide financière que les employeurs versent à leurs employés dans le but de les aider à se remettre du désastre sont considérés comme des avantages aux employés. Ils sont habituellement inclus dans les revenus du bénéficiaire.
Cependant, le décret de remise éliminera les conséquences fiscales de ces paiements pour les employés. Par conséquent, les employés n’auront pas à inclure le montant de cette aide dans leurs revenus lorsqu’ils produiront leur déclaration de revenus de 1997. Quant aux employeurs qui ont accordé une aide financière à leurs employés, ils pourront déduire ces paiements comme dépenses d’entreprise dans leur déclaration de revenus de 1997.
Le Ministre a aussi confirmé que, dans la plupart des cas, les paiements d’aide financière reçus par les victimes des inondations au Manitoba ne se traduiront pas par un montant supplémentaire d’impôt à payer.
"En règle générale, les bénéficiaires n’auront pas à payer un montant supplémentaire d’impôt en raison de ces paiements", a ajouté le Ministre. L’aide financière gouvernementale pour pertes personnelles n’est pas imposable.
