Re: Qualified Investment for a RRSP
This is further to your letter of February 24, 1993 wherein you requested a technical interpretation concerning the acquisition of an investment by a registered retirement savings plan.
We are unable to reply to your questions because you did not provide sufficient information regarding the investment. We need the following additional information to continue working on your request:
- a complete description of the characteristics of the investment purchased (shares or options) and the "receipts" mentioned in your letter;
- are the investment and "receipts" listed on a Canadian stock exchange (in your letter, you mention that the "receipts" are traded on the market, whereas these would not be traded on any exchange according to the newspaper article)?
- when does the investment's ownership pass to the purchaser?
The information should be available in documents (such as a prospectus) used for the public offering. You could forward a copy of these documents to us.
We will be pleased to answer your questions should you provide the information.
