The Honourable Otto Jelinek, Minister of National Revenue, has asked me to reply to your letter of January 26, 1990, addressed to his colleague, the Honourable Robert de Cotret, concerning your request for remission of tax on behalf of 19(1) I apologize for the delay of my response.
Consideration of requests of this nature involves an extensive and fully objective review of the facts of the particular situation by senior departmental officials in Head Office. It is then followed by a careful evaluation of the merits of the request to ensure fair and uniform application of established criteria. I would mention that the process may take some time before the decision is made.
Mr. Bob O'Byrne, a departmental officer, is handling 19(1) file. You may wish to contact Mr. O'Byrne directly to discuss this matter.
