This will confirm the information that I gave yesterday by telephone, that the Department agrees to defer application of the income treatment of pre-judgment/pre-settlement interest for the 1985 calendar year. Please be advised that this extension is further to that announced by Minister on April 26, 1985, in respect of interest associated with 1984 damage awards.
We have completed our technical review of the September 19, 1985 submission by the Insurance Bureau of Canada and have informed officials of the Department of Finance where policy issues are being considered.
